Dear Linux users and enthusiasts,

We are excited to announce that Linux Mint 22, codenamed Wilma, has been officially released! This version brings a host of exciting updates and improvements that further enhance the user experience. Here's an overview of what you can expect in this new release.

Based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Wilma is the first major build based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. This means that Linux Mint 22 will be supported for five years, until 2029. You can count on a stable and secure environment for the long term.

New Linux Kernel and Cinnamon 6.2
This release uses the Linux kernel 6.8, which brings improved performance and compatibility with newer hardware. Additionally, the desktop environment has been updated to Cinnamon 6.2. While this update doesn't include massive changes, it features numerous small bug fixes and enhancements, including better organization of Nemo actions.

Revamped Language Support
One of the most notable changes in Mint 22 is how the system handles language support. Previously, many language packs were installed by default, taking up unnecessary disk space. In this version, only English and the user's preferred language are kept, while other languages are removed after installation. Furthermore, it's now possible to set Dutch (and a few other languages such as German, Spanish, and French) without an internet connection.

Software Center and Matrix Chat Protocol
The revamped Software Center is now faster and provides more information about Flatpaks, including warnings for unverified packages. Additionally, the Matrix chat protocol is now pre-installed by default, making communication with others even easier.

We invite you to download Linux Mint 22 and experience firsthand what this new release has to offer. Share your experiences and feedback here on the forum so we can continue building the best Linux experience together.

Happy Minting!
